DXO Pure Raw and Adobe Super Resolution- A Photography Software Moonshot

Adobe Super Resolution all by itself was an incredible piece of software enabling a doubling of image size with only a barely noticeable quality loss. Now DXO has released Pure Raw2 which dramatically removes noise from a raw or dng image file. It is revolutionary software with several incredible implications.  From the point of view of adventure photography, Pure Raw when combined with Adobe Super Resolution  will produce clear and clean, gorgeous, large scale images from the lightweight equipment that makes adventure photography not just possible, but fun and exciting.  In support, I offer the images below.

The underlying image pairs below are both from the exact same raw image file of  Half Dome taken with my Olympus EM1 Mark ii and the pro f4, 12 x 45 lens. The camera has a 20 megapixel sensor. The underlying image files have been enhanced with Adobe Super Resolution to the same pixel image size, 10368 x 7776 (80 megapixels).  All images have been enlarged to 200%.  The images on the right have additionally been processed with Pure Raw2 Deep Prime; the images on the left have not.  The colors are slightly different only because I originally processed the shot on the left before Pure Raw was released.

The first pair of images is of the crest of Half Dome.  The second pair is of the cliff facing Half Dome.   The difference is stunning!

In both pairs on the left, the sky is very noisy; and the cliffs are actually blurred with noise.

I suspect that Adobe Super Resolution and DXO Pure Raw represent the early stages in a photography software revolution.  It will be exciting to see where it goes; but where it is now is already thrilling!

Note:  My only relationship with Adobe and DXO is as a regularly priced retail customer. I receive no discounts or promotions that are not available to retail customers.  The opinions here are my own.
