St. Climent's Church, Taull, Spain

This is a traditional romanesque church. Taull is a very small village tucked away in the Pyrenees.

Looking  Back 1000 Years

St. Climent's was originally consecrated in 1023, a thousand years ago. The current altar shows more than just the wear of that much time. Thieves had stolen frescoes from churches of this era and sold them on international art markets.  To protect St. Climent's incredible frescoes, some of them were removed and placed on display at the Museum of Catalonia in Barcelona. The altar as looks in 2024 appears on the left below.

However, the church can project a laser over the existing surface to display the altar as it looked a thousand years ago. The altar has a semi-circular back and a domed ceiling. It is an incredible artistic and technological achievement that the projection fits so perfectly.
